Good to hear that someone managed to get the form accept the serial numbers and get an exchange battery. I didn't, although the battery is clearly within the listed range. The web based exchange process declares both the computer (6 months old) and the battery as not eligible. A quick search reveals that there are tons of people across the globe with this problem, and Apple apparently does nothing to remedy the situation. You can't even talk to a Support rep about the issue or order the replacement by phone. It's web only.
So let's recap: I have a PowerBook at home which I bought to have a portable computer, but I'm not allowed to use the old battery anymore, which means I can only use the PB stationary. Neither can I get a new battery as the web form plays up and rejects my valid serial numbers. Very badly dissapointed by a company whose products I have been using for 16 years! Class action anyone? I'll join!!!

I went a different route and recalled my mac book, meaning I just got a refund rather than bother with something that didn't work at all -- batteries aside.

I applaud the use of of exchange versus recall, but more than that, I like that somebody gave it some extra thought in a way most people do not. Rather than get caught up in the mechanics of the recall, someone had the presence of mind to refine the moment for its customers. It's similar to what Delta Airlines did with Song. It didn't shut down the airline, it simply brought it home into the Delta brand, and according to the company, brought Song's routes and most valuable cultural assets to the mother ship. Nicely done.
