News Limited in Australia is doing some interesting stuff, they've even started hiring some external bloggers including a major 'left' blogger down here - Ian Dunlop! I don't think Ian would be on Ruperts Christmas card list...

Comment is Free is a liberal wishy washy blog for journalists, not a blog dedicated for user comments. If that was the case it would probably be much better.

For UK newspaper websites you should look at what thesun.co.uk/mysun and dailymail.co.uk do in terms of UGC - more innovative than the Guardian.

Just thought I'd point out that the newspaper I write for, the Globe and Mail in Toronto, has had comments on every news story and blog for over a year now. As far as I know we were the first newspaper in North America to offer open comments on every news story.

I am not sure why you think the Boston Globe blogs are so great. The staff blogs don't even have comments enabled --typical MSM mindset in which the "discussion" is one-way.

Universal Hub, an independently operated aggregator, is a much better source for Boston blogs, IMHO.
