I agree with you that the focus of most free papers (especially smaller publications) is to push their print version out to local audiences.
However, because these publications are often targeted towards younger audiences, I expected that the free papers would also have significant Web programs to complement their print versions.</description>

I suspect free dailies don&#039;t put too much effort into their websites because their goal is to get people to pick up their printed paper -- after all, it contains their ads. The web is great at reaching national or international audiences, but when a local retailer needs to reach customers in a smaller community, a printed newspaper is still a better way to go.</description>
