More Ron Paul Buzz May 9, 2007

Posted by Todd Zeigler in Politics, Search

This is getting kind of weird.

Yesterday, I took a look at Ron Paul supporters on Digg and today I bump into Ron Paul buzz wherever I go. Here is the latest:

(1) Ron Paul is the number one search on Technorati today, beating out Paris Hilton, Sarkozy, MySpace and YouTube. Our own traffic stats bear this out. We had 100+ people visit our site yesterday based on a “Ron Paul” search on Technorati. It is very unusual for Technorati to send us that much traffic on a single search term. (Via Ron Paul Quest)

(2) According to the notoriously unreliable Alexa, traffic to Paul’s site has boomed the last few days (credit Alex Hammer). Check out this chart showing Paul traffic trends versus those of other Republican nominees.

Wild and crazy stuff.

It really is amazing isn’t it? The power of the internet multiplied by a passionate group.

This doesn’t surprise me at all.

If you went on Usenet in 1996, you’d have thought Harry Browne, the Libertarian candidate, was the odds-on favorite. John Hagelin (Natural Law) wouldn’t have been far behind.

If you’re a hardcore LP member, what’s the chance that a neighbor, friend, or office mate shares your political beliefs? Hardly any at all. You *have* to go online to meet people like you.

The Internet will always have its share of passionate minorities who have no other outlet for organizing around common beliefs.

Patrick - very good point. I’m just surprised that they’ve mustered up the numbers to impact things like Technorati and general site traffic. That is, of course, assuming this is all real.

Here’s my take. I’m 46, a conservative, have six kids, a great wife, I’m self-employed, and quite fed up with the rubbish that’s come out of Washington. Someone emailed me about Ron Paul ten days ago - I’ve worked very little since then and spend most of my time stumping for this man. I’m not stupid - I can see the writing on the wall. Just watch how this incredible guy with a flawless record of being for the people gets treated by Fox, or any of the other major media. We have an opportunity to elect a PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT that supports our Constitution. Wow, what a unique idea! What happened on Fox, and the subsequent call from the head of the MI GOP for Paul to be banned from all future debates is just a small taste of what’s to come if we let these screwballs take power.

Oh, and the numbers are only ‘real’ if you’re in the mainstream media’s list of “approved” candidates. Ron Paul didn’t get invited to join for some reason (hmmmm) so these numbers really must just be the crafty manipulation of the world wide web (and add text messaging as Paul led the Fox Poll for most of the night following the 2nd. debate). It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with his positions (as we all know he’s been given very little time by the GOP to express them). WAKE UP AMERICA BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

Ron Paul loves America. He loves your freedom. He lives trying to uphold the ideas of our Founding Fathers. Those ideas of Liberty, Justice, Privacy, Equality, etc. are what has made America powerful. Today America is on the brink, of bankruptcy and totalitarian rule (they usually go hand in hand). Wake up, learn more, and if you feel like Ron Paul would be a good man to lead our country, then SPREAD THE WORD.
